ท่านผู้อ่านครับ ผมพูดอย่างนี้มาแล้วหลายครั้ง และก็จะพูดไปเรื่อย ๆ คือ เมื่อเราเจอคำศัพท์, วลี, สำนวน, กลุ่มคำ ฯลฯ ที่ไม่รู้หรือไม่แน่ใจ วิธีแรกที่จะให้รู้ไม่ใช่การเปิดดิก แต่คือการเดาความหมายจากข้อความรอบ ๆ (บริบท - context) วิธีเดามีหลักเกณฑ์อย่างไร ก็มี→ คำอธิบาย เยอะ แต่เรื่องสำคัญก็คือ ความชำนาญในการเดาต้องมาจากการฝึกเดาบ่อย ๆ ไม่ใช่แค่รู้ทฤษฎีแต่ไม่เคยฝึก การฝึกก็คือเจียดเวลาอ่านภาษาอังกฤษทุกวัน อ่านอะไรก็ได้ที่ตัวเองชอบ สนใจ หรือต้องใช้งาน
วันนี้ผมขอเสนอ สำนวน-สุภาษิต ชุดหนึ่ง ซึ่งเมื่ออ่านแล้วเราอาจจะเดาอย่างแน่ใจได้ทันที, หรือต้องตั้งใจอ่านหรือตีความสักหน่อยถึงจะพอเข้าใจ-แน่ใจ, และความแน่ใจนี้ก็อาจจะมีตั้งแต่มาก ๆ 80 - 90 %, แน่ใจกลาง ๆ 50 - 60 %, หรือแน่ใจน้อยแค่ 10 - 20 % แต่ถ้าเราฝึกอ่านบ่อย ๆ & ฝึกเดาบ่อย ๆ เราจะพัฒนาได้ สาเหตุที่เราพัฒนาไม่ได้ก็เพราะ (1)เราไม่อ่าน หรือ (2)เราอ่านแต่ไม่ออกแรงเดา - เอาแต่เปิดดิก หรือไม่เปิดดิก → อ่านผ่านเลยแบบยอมไม่รู้เรื่อง
