ยิ่งพึ่งความเข้าใจจากคำแปลที่คนอื่น"จัดให้" มากเพียงใด ยิ่งไปไม่ถึงไหน
สวัสดีครับ
ทุกวันนี้มีเว็บไซต์และคลิปสอนภาษาอังกฤษที่อธิบายเป็นภาษาไทยมากมาย มากจริง ๆ อยากรู้อยากเรียนอะไรก็กูเกิ้ลคำนั้น แค่นี้ก็จะได้คำอธิบายและคำตอบ ทันทีและมากมาย แต่ทำไมทักษะภาษาอังกฤษของคนไทยจึงยังต่ำเตี้ย แม้แต่คนที่ขยันเรียนทุกวันก็ยังไปไม่ถึงไหน
ต่อไปนี้เป็นความเห็นของผม ท่านอาจเห็นด้วยหรือเห็นแย้งก็ได้ ผมจะพูดเฉพาะการฝึกอ่านและฝึกฟัง และพูดถึงคนที่เรียนจบมีงานทำแล้ว เรื่องที่ไม่ได้พูดถึงก็เป็นอันว่าทำนองเดียวกันนี้
คือคนเป็นจำนวนมากที่จบมาด้วยทักษะภาษาอังกฤษที่อ่อนยวบ (ไม่ต้องไปสืบสวนหรอกครับว่ามีสาเหตุมากจากอะไร) พอมาทำงานที่ต้องใช้ภาษาอังกฤษ เอาง่าย ๆ ว่าต้องอ่านและฟังรู้เรื่องให้ได้ก่อน (พูดและเขียน ถ้าได้ด้วยยิ่งดี) พอเริ่มฟิตหรือฝึก ก็อยากจะอ่านและฟังเข้าใจได้ทันที ไม่อยากรอ(เป็นนิสัยของคนยุคนี้ที่รอไม่เป็น)
ถ้าเรากูเกิ้ลด้วยคำว่า วิธีฝึกอ่านภาษาอังกฤษให้เข้าใจเร็ว ๆ ก็จะได้รับคำตอบดี ๆ มากมาย → คลิกดู แต่คำตอบมันก็เป็นแค่คำตอบ เป็นแค่แผนที่ การเดินทางตามแผนที่ไปให้ถึงที่หมาย เป็นเรื่องที่แต่ละคนต้องทำเอง การไม่ออกแรงทำอย่างอื่น เอาแต่ถามหรือสะสมแผนที่ ก็คงได้แค่อยู่กับที่
คราวนี้มาพูดถึงคนที่เริ่มก้าวขาออกเดินทางบ้าง เท่าที่ผมดูเว็บไทยซึ่งมีเนื้อหาสอนเรื่องการอ่านภาษาอังกฤษให้คล่อง ฟังให้คล่อง ก็มีคำอธิบายมากมาย มีคำศัพท์ วลี สำนวน สแลง เป็นพัน ๆ พร้อมคำแปลไทยให้เสร็จสรรพ ข้อความหรือประโยคตัวอย่างที่ยกมาอธิบายก็แปลให้ด้วย สรุปก็คือ คำอธิบายและคำแปลที่มีให้ในเน็ต มันมากมายและช่วยให้คนเรียนเข้าใจได้ทันที โดยแทบไม่ต้องใช้สมองเลย
และผมขอสรุปว่า วิธีเรียนอย่างนี้แหละครับ ถ้าเอาแต่เรียนอย่างนี้อย่างเดียว หรือเรียนแบบนี้มากเกินไป จะยิ่งเรียนยิ่งไม่ได้ผล เพราะเราฟังคำอธิบายหรืออ่านคำแปลมากเกินไปจนไม่ต้องใช้สมอง ผลก็คือยิ่งเรียนยิ่งแย่ เสียเวลาเปล่า แม้จะเข้าใจสิ่งที่ครูอธิบาย แต่ก็ไม่ช่วยให้ reading skill หรือ listening skill ดีขึ้น
- reading skill จะดีขึ้นก็ต่อเมื่อ เราได้ฝึก read จริง ๆ
- listening skill จะดีขึ้นก็ต่อเมื่อ เราได้ฝึก listen จริง ๆ
ไม่ไช่เอาแต่อ่านหรือฟัง คำอธิบายหรือคำแปลที่เป็นภาษาไทย จนสมองไม่ได้ฝึกเจอของจริง เพราะมัวแต่พอใจที่ได้ "เข้าใจ" ในคำอธิบายหรือคำแปล แต่ไม่ได้ออกแรง read หรือ listen จริง ๆ จัง ๆ
ปัญหาก็คือ ถ้าไม่มีคำแปลหรือคำอธิบายเป็นไทย จะรู้เรื่องได้ยังไง อ่านไป-ฟังไป จะแน่ใจได้ยังไงว่าเราเข้าใจถูกต้อง?
ผมขอเปรียบเทียบอย่างนี้แล้วกันครับ คนที่เรียนจบแล้วแต่ภาษาอังกฤษอ่อนมาก ก็คงย้อนกลับไปแก้ไขอดีตไม่ได้อีกแล้ว มันเป็นกฎแห่งกรรม ใครทำกรรมใดไว้ก็ต้องรับผลอย่างนั้น แต่ว่าเราไม่จำเป็นต้องรับกรรมอย่างคนทนทุกข์หน้านิ่วคิ้วขมวด เราสามารถรับกรรมแบบยิ้มแย้มแจ่มใสก็ได้ แม้เป็นการเริ่มเดินทางใหม่ เพราะไม่มีใครแก่เกินเรียน
แล้วจะฝึกอ่าน - ฝึกฟังยังไง ให้เข้าใจเร็ว ๆ?
ท่านผิดแล้วครับ ผิดตั้งแต่เริ่มตั้งคำถาม - ยังไม่ได้เริ่มเรียน !!!
พอท่านตั้งเงื่อนไขว่าจะต้องเข้าใจได้เร็ว ๆ แต่พอได้ผลไม่เร็วอย่างที่หวัง ก็เป็นทุกข์ไปตลอดทาง และไม่กี่วันก็เลิกเรียน เพราะท้อ
ผมขอพูดซ้ำอย่างที่พูดมาแล้วบ่อย ๆ ถ้าจะฝึกอ่านให้เข้าใจก็ต้องอ่านจริง ๆ ถ้าจะฝึกฟังให้รู้เรื่องก็ต้องฝึกฟังจริง ๆ ไม่ใช่เอาแต่รอรับคำแปลหรือคำอธิบายที่เป็นภาษาไทย โดยประสาทตาและประสาทหูแทบไม่เคยเจอกับภาษาอังกฤษล้วน ๆ และก็ยังหวังว่าจะเก่ง มันเป็นไปไม่ได้หรอกครับ
วิธีฝึกชนิดเจอของจริง ก็คือ
[1] เลือกภาษาอังกฤษที่จะฝึกอ่าน - ฝึกฟัง ที่ไม่ยาก-ไม่ง่ายเกินไป ให้พอฟัดพอเหวี่ยงกับตัวเอง ถ้าท่านจบปริญญาตรีแต่ทักษะการอ่าน-การฟัง อยู่แค่ระดับเด็กอนุบาล ก็ต้องยอมถ่อมใจ ลงไปอ่านหรือฟังเนื้อหาระดับนั้น และไต่เต้าขึ้นมาตามลำดับ นี่เป็นการ "แก้กรรม" ครับ
[2] หาเรื่องที่ชอบให้เจอ ถ้าหาไม่เจอก็ต้องพยายามหาให้เจอ จะได้ไม่ต้องทนฝึกกับเรื่องที่ไม่ชอบ
[3] ฝึกอ่าน-ฝึกฟัง ภาษาอังกฤษ ที่ตัวเองชอบ ที่ไม่ยาก-ไม่ง่ายเกินไป, ฝึกทุกวัน แม้ขณะที่ฝึกจะงง-จะไม่เข้าใจ ก็ฝึกเดา - ฝึกสังเกต ไปเรื่อย ๆ ผมขอพูดย้ำถ้อยคำนี้อีกครั้ง "การงงเมื่ออ่านหรือฟังเป็นภาษาอังกฤษ ดีกว่าความเข้าใจที่ได้จากคำแปลเป็นภาษาไทย" และเพราะมัวแต่พึ่งคำแปลเป็นภาษาไทย - เข้าใจเป็นภาษาไทย นี่แหละครับ คนไทยที่ฟิตภาษาอังกฤษจึงไปไม่ถึงไหนซะที
เพื่อกันการเข้าใจผิดผมขอบอกว่า ผมไม่ได้แอนตี้คำอธิบายหรือคำแปลเป็นภาษาไทย แต่อยากจะชี้ว่า ในวันหนึ่ง ๆ เรามีเวลาน้อยมาก และเวลาที่สามารถแบ่งมาฟิตภาษาอังกฤษก็ยิ่งน้อยลงไปอีก ถ้าให้เวลามากเกินไปกับการฟังหรืออ่านคำอธิบายหรือคำแปลเป็นภาษาไทย ก็จะเหลือเวลานิดเดียวในการฝึกอ่าน-ฝึกฟัง เป็นภาษาอังกฤษจริง ๆ
การฝึกภาษาอังกฤษให้ได้ผล ก็เหมือนนักมวยนั่นแหละครับ ต้องซ้อมจริง - ชกจริง ถ้ามัวแต่ซ้อมหลอก ๆ ฟังโค้ชอธิบายแต่ไม่ยอมเจอของจริง ไม่ยอมเหงื่อออก ไม่ยอมเหนื่อย ไม่ยอมถูลู่ถูกังกับการฝึก มันไม่เห็นผลหรอกครับ และการเห็นผลนั้น ไม่ใช่วัดที่อ่านแล้วเข้าใจ - ฟังแล้วเข้าใจ 100% แต่อยู่ที่ความงงที่ค่อย ๆ ลดน้อยลง ทีละหน่อย ๆ เพราะทนฝึกไม่หยุด
โลกนี้ไม่มีอะไรได้มาโดยง่ายดายหรอกครับ และอะไรที่ได้มาง่ายเกินไปมักจะไม่ใช่ของจริง ของจริงจะได้มาเพราะพยายามจริง ๆ เท่านั้น
