ในข่าวเดียวกัน ถ้าท่านอ่านข่าวจากหนังสือพิมพ์ภาษาไทยก่อน ตามด้วยข่าวเดียวกันที่หนังสือพิมพ์ภาษาอังกฤษ มันจะอ่านได้ง่ายขึ้น เช่นข่าวนี้

จริงอยู่เนื้อข่าว 2 ภาษานี้มิได้ตรงกันเด๊ะ จุดเน้นต่างกัน รายละเอียดก็ต่างกัน แต่เรื่องใหญ่ใจความก็อันเดียวกัน
การฝึกอ่านภาษาอังกฤษ โดยอ่านเรื่องที่เราสนใจหรือพอรู้เนื้อหาอยู่แล้ว จะช่วยให้เราอ่านง่ายขึ้น - - - ง่ายยังไง? เพราะเราจะเดาศัพท์ที่ไม่รู้หรือไม่แน่ใจได้ง่ายขึ้น, และ เราจะตีความเรื่องที่งงได้ง่ายขึ้น
แต่บางคนก็อยากให้บอกสุด ๆ คือ แปลเทียบให้ดูเลย ประโยคภาษาอังกฤษกับประโยคภาษาไทย แถมให้ช่วยบอกศัพท์ด้วยว่า คำว่าอะไรแปลว่าอะไร
ในขณะที่หลายเว็บ รวมทั้ง e4thai.com ด้วย มีบริการแปลเทียบเช่นนี้ให้ดู [คลิก อ่าน Eng-Thai] แต่ผมอยากจะแนะนำว่า เราน่าจะยกระดับการฝึก reading skill ของเราให้สูงขึ้นอีก 1 ระดับ คือ การฝึกอ่านบทความภาษาไทยตามด้วยบทความภาษาอังกฤษ ในเรื่องเดียวกัน ซึ่งมันจะช่วยเรา 2 เรื่องอย่างที่ว่ามาแล้ว คือ ช่วยให้เดาศัพท์ที่ไม่รู้หรือไม่แน่ใจได้ง่ายขึ้น, และ ช่วยให้เราตีความเรื่องที่งงได้ง่ายขึ้น เพราะถ้าอ่านบทความภาษาอังกฤษทันทีเลยโดยไม่มีผู้ช่วย อาจจะยากไปสักนิด
และเว็บที่มีบทความทั้งภาษาไทยและภาษาอังกฤษให้เราอ่านเทียบในลักษณะนี้ ก็คือเว็บ สารานุกรมเสรี หรือ Wikipedia
ท่านอาจจะไม่เชื่อว่า ที่ Wikipedia มีเรื่องไทย ๆ มากมาย ได้เขียนเป็นบทความ 2 ภาษาให้เราอ่านเทียบ เดี๋ยวผมจะยกตัวอย่างมาให้ท่านอ่านดูที่ท้ายบทความนี้ แต่ตอนนี้ผมขอแนะนำวิธี Search ก่อน
วิธีที่ดีที่สุดไม่ใช่เข้าไป Search ที่เว็บ Wikipedia แต่ให้ Search ที่ Google.com ทั้งนี้ก็เพราะว่า ถ้าท่านเข้าไป Search ที่เว็บ ถ้าท่านพิมพ์ผิดไปสักหน่อย, หรือพิมพ์คำค้นที่สั้นหรือยาวเกินไปบ้าง ฯลฯ มันอาจจะบอกว่าเรื่องที่ท่านหาไม่มี ทั้ง ๆ ที่มันมี แต่ถ้าหาที่ Google.com ผลที่ค้นได้จะแน่นอนกว่า
วิธีค้นทำยังไงครับ? ก็ง่าย ๆ ครับ คือ
[1]ไปที่ www.google.com หรือ www.google.co.th ก็ได้
[2] พิมพ์ Wikipedia ลงไป ตามด้วยคำค้นภาษาไทย เช่น Wikipedia สี่แผ่นดิน, Enter
[3]เลือกคลิกลิงค์ที่ Google โชว์ ซึ่งตรงกับสิ่งที่เราต้องการค้น มันมักจะเป็นลิงค์แรก ๆ
[4] เมื่อคลิกเข้าไปบทความภาษาไทยแล้ว, ให้ท่านมองที่คอลัมน์ซ้ายมือ ใต้หัวข้อ ภาษาอื่น, ให้คลิกคำว่า English เพื่อไปยังบทความภาษาอังกฤษ
[5] ถ้าไม่มีคำว่า English แสดงว่า เรื่องนี้ไม่มีบทความภาษาอังกฤษให้ท่านอ่าน ท่านอาจจะต้องปรับการ Search สักนิด เช่น ตำบล บางจะเกร็ง ซึ่งเป็นตำบลหนึ่งในจังหวัดสมุทรสงครามไม่มีบทความภาษาอังกฤษให้อ่าน แต่บทความเรื่อง จังหวัดสมุทรสงคราม มีภาษาอังกฤษให้อ่านครับ
เอาละครับ อย่างที่ผมบอกแล้ว ที่ Wikipedia มีบทความภาษาไทยควบภาษาอังกฤษให้อ่านแทบจะทุกเรื่อง ข้างล่างนี้คือตัวอย่าง, ตัวอย่างเท่านั้นนะครับ เพราะยังมีมากกว่านี้อีกเยอะ ผมเชื่อว่าหลายเรื่องที่ท่านอยากรู้ มันจะมีภาษาอังกฤษให้อ่านเทียบภาษาไทย และนี่คือวิธีฝึกอ่านภาษาอังกฤษที่น่าสนุก ท้าทาย เพราะได้ออกแรงสมอง จึงเหมาะสำหรับท่านที่สมองเมื่อยล้า เหนื่อยง่ายเมื่ออ่านภาษาอังกฤษ วิธีแก้ก็คือ ต้องออกแรงเพื่อให้มีแรง, ต้องยอมเหนื่อยเพื่อให้หายเหนื่อย
สุดท้ายที่เกือบลืมบอกก็คือ การที่ผมแนะนำให้ใช้ Wikipedia เป็นบทเรียนฝึกภาษาอังกฤษนี้ มิได้แปลว่าผมเห็นด้วยหรือไม่เห็นด้วย กับความถูกต้องของเนื้อหาใน Wikipedia ผมเพียงแนะนำให้ใช้มันเป็น exercise ในการฝึก Reading เท่านั้น ส่วนเรื่องคุณภาพของเนื้อหาท่านต้องดูเอาเองนะครับ

วิธีอ่านและดาวน์โหลดหนังสือจาก Google Books
สวัสดีครับ
ตามปกติ เมื่อผมจะคัดเลือกหนังสือภาษาอังกฤษมาให้ท่านผู้อ่านดาวน์โหลดไปศึกษา ผมก็มีเว็บเจ้าประจำที่ไปหาอยู่ไม่กี่เว็บ คือ

แต่อันที่จริงมีเว็บใหญ่อีก 1 เว็บที่ผมไม่ค่อยได้เข้าไปใช้บริการ คือ เว็บหนังสือ Google Books สาเหตุก็เพราะว่า แม้หนังสือจะเยอะ แต่ก็ให้เราอ่านขณะต่อเน็ตได้ไม่กี่หน้า บางเล่มที่ให้อ่านได้ทั้งเล่มก็มักจะเป็นหนังสือเก่า และที่อ่านได้ทั้งเล่มนี้ ก็มีเพียงบางเล่มเท่านั้นที่ให้ดาวน์โหลดได้ แต่ส่วนใหญ่จะให้อ่านเฉย ๆ พอเจอเข้าอย่างนี้ผมก็เลยไม่ค่อยได้เข้าไปใช้บริการ
แต่มาคิดดูอีกที ก็น่าจะแนะนำเว็บนี้อยู่เหมือนกัน เพราะว่ามีหนังสือดี ๆ ใหม่ ๆ หลายเล่ม ที่เว็บดาวน์โหลดข้างต้นไม่มี แต่มีที่เว็บ Google Books และแม้ว่า จะให้เราอ่านเพียงไม่กี่หน้าหรือไม่ยอมให้เราดาวน์โหลด แต่ก็อาจจะมีประโยชน์ อย่างน้อยการได้อ่านคำนำ, สารบัญ, หรือบทแรก ก็ทำให้เรารู้ว่า หนังสือเล่มนี้เป็นยังไง ถ้าเราชอบและจะต้องเสียตังค์ซื้อจริง ๆ ที่ร้านหนังสือ มันจะคุ้มไหม และอีกอย่างหนึ่งเมื่อเข้าเว็บนี้ ถ้าโชคดี เราอาจจะได้เจอเล่มที่เราชอบซึ่งเขาให้ดาวน์โหลดก็ได้ พอคิดได้อย่างนี้ วันนี้ผมจึงขอแนะนำ เว็บ Google Books
วิธีค้นที่ง่ายที่สุด คือไปที่หน้า Google Books Advanced Search

ถ้าท่านจำเว็บนี้ไม่ได้ ก็พิมพ์คำว่า Google Books Advanced Search เข้าไปที่ Google.com, เว็บแรกที่ Google โชว์นั่นแหละครับ คือ หน้า Google Books Advanced Search
ผมขอแนะนำการค้น ในช่องต่าง ๆ ดังนี้ครับ (ขณะนี้ท่านอยู่ที่หน้า Google Books Advanced Search นะครับ)
Find results – พิมพ์ลงไปในช่องนี้ ถ้าท่านไม่รู้ชื่อหนังสือ หรือชื่อคนแต่ง
Search: - ถ้าท่านต้องการหนังสือที่อ่านได้ทั้งเล่ม ก็คลิก Full view only
Title - พิมพ์ชื่อหนังสือ
Author - พิมพ์ชื่อคนแต่ง
Subject – พิมพ์คำที่คิดว่า น่าจะเป็น subject ของหนังสือ เช่น English grammar
Publication Date – พิมพ์ช่วง ค.ศ. ที่หนังสือออกตีพิมพ์ขาย
หมายเหตุ: ช่องข้างบนนี้ ท่านไม่จำเป็นต้องเลือกทุกช่อง
เสร็จแล้วคลิก Google Search ที่ด้านบนขวา
สำหรับบางเล่มที่ดาวน์โหลดได้ ก็จะมีปุ่มให้คลิกตามภาพข้างล่างนี้ ถ้าไม่มีให้คลิกก็แสดงว่าดาวน์โหลดไม่ได้

ศึกษาศัพท์กับดิกภาพ online
สวัสดีครับ
การจำศัพท์พร้อมกับการจำภาพ จะช่วยให้จำศัพท์ได้เร็วและจำได้นาน ทั้งนี้เพราะภาพเป็นรูปธรรมที่ตาจับต้องได้ และยังช่วยให้เข้าใจความหมายของศัพท์ได้ดีโดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งในส่วนที่คำพูดอธิบายได้ยาก
ในเว็บนี้ ผมได้รวบรวม eBook ดิกชันนารีภาพให้ท่านดาวน์โหลดที่ลิงค์นี้ รวมดาวน์โหลด eBook, mp3, โปรแกรม ภาษาอังกฤษ ซึ่งใช้ในการฝึกภาษาอังกฤษ(หมวดที่ 8: Picture Dictionary)
อย่างไรก็ตาม eBook แม้จะให้ภาพศัพท์เป็นหมวดหมู่ ศึกษาง่าย แต่มันก็ค่อนข้างแห้งแล้ง เพราะไม่มี interaction กับคนดู ในแง่นี้ การศึกษาภาพศัพท์จากเว็บขณะต่อเน็ตจึงสนุกกว่า
เว็บที่เหมาะที่สุดในการศึกษาศัพท์จากภาพ คือเว็บ ดิกชันนารีภาพ ผมขอแบ่งเว็บพวกนี้เป็น 2 ประเภทง่าย ๆ ดังนี้
[1]เว็บที่แสดงภาพศัพท์ที่ค่อนข้างเป็นเรื่องเทคนิคมากสักหน่อย คือ เขาให้ภาพช่วยอธิบายเรื่องทางเทคนิคซึ่งเป็นเรื่องที่ยาก เช่นที่ 3 เว็บนี้

[2]เว็บที่แสดงภาพศัพท์ซึ่งส่วนใหญ่เป็นศัพท์พื้นฐาน ซึ่งพบบ่อย – ใช้บ่อย ในชีวิตประจำวัน เว็บพวกนี้แหละครับที่มีประโยชน์มากสำหรับคนต่างชาติที่จะเรียนภาษาอังกฤษ ซึ่งในที่นี้ผมได้รวบรวมมาได้ประมาณสิบเว็บ
แต่ละเว็บมีบริการภาพศัพท์ไม่เหมือนกัน ผมให้สัญลักษณ์ตามข้างล่างนี้
[A] จัดหมวดหมู่ของคำศัพท์
[B] จัดหมวดหมู่เรียงตาม A, B, C, D…. หรือบางเว็บจัดหมวดหมู่ละหลายตัว เช่น A-B, C-D, E-F เป็นต้น
[C] มีช่อง Search ให้พิมพ์หาภาพศัพท์ที่ต้องการศึกษา
[D] คลิกฟังเสียงอ่านคำศัพท์ได้,
[E] มีคำนิยามสั้น ๆ ของคำศัพท์หรือ มีลิงค์โยงคำศัพท์ไปเข้าหมวดหมู่ของมัน หรือไปสู่คำอธิบายเพิ่มเติม
ผมขอแนะนำให้ท่านของเข้าไปสำรวจเว็บภาพศัพท์ข้างล่างนี้ และดูว่าท่านชอบเว็บไหนจะได้เข้าไปใช้เว็บนั้นบ่อย ๆ ทั้งนี้ท่านที่มีลูกศิษย์หรือลูกหลานอาจจะต้องคลิกดูให้คล่องสักหน่อย เพื่อจะได้เป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญแนะนำเขาได้

100 ถ้อยคำใช้ขึ้นต้นประโยคสนทนาเวลาพูด (ด/ล eBook, mp3)
สวัสดีครับ
ท่านเคยสังเกตไหมครับว่า หนังสือการสนทนาภาษาอังกฤษที่มีวางขายในท้องตลาดเมืองไทย หลายต่อหลายเล่มมักจะเอาสถานการณ์เป็นตัวตั้ง เช่น ภาษาอังกฤษที่ต้องใช้เมื่อทักทาย, กล่าวลา, แนะนำตัว, ถามทาง-บอกทาง, ไปช็อปปิ้ง, ซื้อของ, ไปพบหมอ, ไปร้านอาหาร, ไปโรงหนัง ฯลฯ โดยแนะนำประโยค, วลี, ศัพท์ ที่ต้องใช้ในโอกาสเหล่านี้
วันนี้ผมเจอลิงค์หัวข้อนี้ 100 common phrases and sentence patterns ซึ่งเขาแนะนำการฝึกสนทนาที่ต่างจากวิธีข้างต้น คือ เขารวบรวม pattern ของประโยค จำนวน 100 pattern ที่เราสามารถฝึกฝนจดจำนำไปใช้พูดได้ในทุกโอกาส คือ เราสามารถขึ้นต้นประโยคด้วย pattern เหล่านี้ ดูที่ลิงค์นี้ครับ

ในแต่ละประโยค pattern เขาจะมีประโยคตัวอย่าง (EXAMPLES) และบทสนทนาระหว่างคน 2 คนที่ใช้ประโยคเหล่านี้ ( DIALOGUES) โดยมีทั้งข้อความให้อ่าน และ mp3 ให้คลิกฟังเสียง
วิธีฝึกก็ทำได้ง่าย ๆ คือ อ่านหลาย ๆ เที่ยวให้ชินตา, ฟังหลาย ๆ เที่ยวให้ชินหู, และฝึกพูดตามให้ชินปาก – ไม่ต้องพูดตามทุกถ้อยคำ แต่ฝึกเอา ประโยค pattern นี้มาใช้ให้เข้ากับสถานการณ์ของเรา อันนี้เราอาจจะต้องเติมคำศัพท์ หรือตัวละครเข้าไปในประโยคเพื่อความเหมาะสม
ที่ผมชอบใจมาก ๆ ก็คือ ทั้ง 100 ประโยค pattern เหล่านี้ เป็นเสมือนวิธีปรุงอาหาร เช่น แกงส้ม แกงคั่ว แกงจืด หน้าที่ของเราก็คือ ไปหาเครื่องปรุงหรือศัพท์ต่าง ๆ ใส่เข้าไปในประโยค เหมือนกับหาเครื่องปรุงใส่เข้าไปหม้อแกง เพียงเท่านี้ เราอยากจะกินแกงอะไรก็ปรุงได้ตามใจชอบ เหมือนกับ เราอยากจะพูดเรื่องอะไรก็พูดได้ตามใจชอบ โดยขึ้นต้นประโยคที่จะพูด ด้วย 100 pattern ที่เขาให้หาเป็นตัวอย่างนี่แหละครับ
ผมพยายามที่จะแปล 100 pattern เหล่านี้เป็นภาษาไทย, แต่ก็พบว่าบาง pattern ก็แปลตรงตัวไม่ค่อยจะได้ อย่างไรก็ตาม ผมได้ลองแปลดูแล้ว และคิดว่ามันน่าถ่ายออกเป็นภาษาไทยได้คร่าว ๆ ตามที่ผมให้ไว้นี่แหละครับ

การฝึกกับประโยค pattern ทำนองนี้ ท่านมีภาระต้องหาศัพท์แสงมาเติมให้เต็มประโยค, ให้มันเข้ากับเรื่องที่ท่านต้องใช้พูด, มันอาจจะยากกว่า copy ประโยคจากหนังสือมาพูดได้ทันที แต่ผมเชื่อว่า ถ้าท่านบังคับให้สมองออกแรงมากสักนิด, คือหาศัพท์มาใส่เข้าไปในประโยคเพื่อให้ใช้งานได้จริง ๆ, และบังคับให้ปากออกเสียงประโยคนี้ออกมาให้ได้ – ผลที่ได้จะคุ้มค่าครับ, คุ้มค่าแน่ ๆ, ผมขอรับรองครับ.
